Part I describes the ancient Alexandria, one of the cultural capitals of the world at that time, a singular birthplace of knowledge, culture and intelligence, the first true large-scale attempt to universalize knowledge. It is also an overview of Egypt’s history, allowing the reader to get in touch with the origins of such attempt, how it was carried on through successive historical and political backgrounds, before delving into the Library and perhaps the main point here, namely, what was actually accomplished there: the schools of thought that sprouted and developed, some until full bloom, under the auspices of the Ptolemies. Many were essential to the constitution of Christianity as we know it today. Parts 2 and 3 degenerate into spiritualist mumbo jumbo that has little to do with Egypt, Greeks or history.
